Background: Roebrt Waestn was a brilliant scientist on his homeworld of Xarvius. His specialty was
mechanics and electronics. When a civil war broke out on his world, he found himself allied with the
rebellion who were attempting to secure liberties and freedoms for all - not just those of the richer
class who could afford them. At the same time, the conquering race known as the Destroyers had contacted
the Xarvian government with an offer - join them or be overthrown. The rich Xarvian government agreed to support the off-world conquerors and even presented them with a prisoner in good faith - the recently capture Roebrt.
While in captivity, he became acquainted with Xanis Calnar, his daughter Morga, and the feral Jagrinn. Months passed before the quartet had an opportunity to put an escape plan in motion. The four managed to escape their captors during a prisoner transport, fleeing to the nearest habitable system they could find. They ended up on Earth (2/65). After a year of adjusting to their new home and taking on more Earth-like sounding names, the four took on heroic identities (2/66). Roebrt used his mechanical skills to fashion a form of Xarvian battle armor. The media quickly dubbed him 'Robotman' and the name stuck for many years. The Calnars became known as Space Lord and Star Light while Jagrinn took on the name of Man-Wolf. With other heroes of Earth, they formed the core of the Justice Gang(10/68). Over time, Roebrt realized he was falling in love with Morga. A year later, the Destroyers learned of these heroes of Earth and recognized the quartet who had escaped their grasps. They prepared their first of many attacks upon the Earth, but the new heroic team was able to turn them back. Years later, Roebrt received a distress call from Xarvius. His old ally requested that he return to the homeworld to help reorganize the world's troubled government. Sadly, he bid his love goodbye and would not see her for nearly three years. Things turned out to not be as they were presented to him on Xarvius, and he was forced to call the Justice gang for assistance. In the end, Roebrt was exiled in order to save the population from holocaust (1/78). (continued below...) |

Reunited with his love, Roebrt then was introduced to their two-year old son Jonah, who was conceived shortly before he departed and was born in 1977. A month later, the two were wed (2/78) and not even an attack by one of the team's enemies could put a damper on the day. The three would live happily as a family for a number of years, until tragedy struck once more.
Star Light was killed in battle a few years later, when a super-villain team called the Octagon ambushed her enmasse in order to make a name for themselves. Her funeral, attended by many super-heroes, was held sometime thereafter in the Justice Gang's satellite headquarters. Her power gem was eventually recovered and was kept in the possession of her son Jonah.
Angered by these events, Robotman wanted to kill the man responsible for his wife's death -
Prince Pyro (1987). Only the intervention by his father-in-law prevented him from carrying out the murder. At that point, Roebrt became withdrawn and quit the Justice Gang for a time.
He spent a few years wrestling with his inner demons as well as retooling his armor. He later came back to a costumed role as Xarvian (1994) and eventually rejoined the Justice Gang as well (1999).
Motivation: Roebrt has always been a bit of a revolutionary and full of passion for his causes. Because of this, at times, he can be blinded by his emotions and charge full steam into a situation. He tends to take a leadership or commanding role, often shouting orders to others in the midst of battle. By the same token, he also can become withdrawn - especially when deep in research or one of his projects. His armor is often a symbol of his cutting others off from his world. When she was alive, his wife Morga was able to balance his moods with just her smile. After her death, he began to slide back to how he was in his younger days. his son Jonah and father-in-law Xanis try to reach out to him but are not anywhere near as successful as Morga had been.
In his view, his adopted homeworld has become a different place in the past 30 plus years he has been on Earth. These new timescall for new measures. Roebrt sees justice in a more extreme, almost Biblical manner. An eye for an eye, if you will. This is how things had been on his homeworld of Xarvius and it is how he sees things since his wife's death. The fact that he switched his heroic monicker from Robotman to Xarvian, and the incorporation of his native tongue's written symbols on his armor all seem to reflect this as well.
