Background: Rexx Carlson was born in October of 1942, the eldest child of Reginald Carlson, the owner and president of Carlson Industries in Boston. The family company made its fortune in shipping and manufacturing, especially during the war years of the early part of the 20th century. Rexx's sister Regina was born six years later. He was an attentive, caring older brother who often looked out for his sister. She however was the apple of her father's eye and often took the attention of her parents away from Rexx whenever she could.
Both children grew up in the high society of New England and went to private schools. When Rexx was a teenager, he often would accompany his father in business trips while on school break (much to Regina's dismay). On one such trip to Newark, he and his father were ambushed by a group of criminals on a darkened street. However, the pair was rescued by local hero Tigerman who made short work of the thugs despite the overwhelming odds of five to one. (1957) This encounter made a huge impression on Rexx's life. While attending college for business, Rexx also took the time to hone his skills in acrobatics, gymnastics and to master archery for which he had always been interested in. He also made a good friend who taught him some engineering and tinkering skills. Then, in 1965, Rexx donned a mask and costume and began patroling the city as the Blue Bowman, inspired by the character Robin Hood which was a childhood favorite. A few years later, he and eight other heroes formed the team known as the Justice Gang (10/68). Through this group he became a good friend with his long time idol and inspiration. The Justice Gang made many enemies both terran and extraterrestrial. These adventures took the Bowman to so many amazing locales. But they would also lead to problems in his life too. During the climatic battle of the invasion of the Destroyers (1975), he and fellow teammate Time Lord were accidentally hurled back in time. The two spent twelve years stranded in ancient Greece until Time Lord's time-converter could be repaired. (360 BC to 348 BC) They returned to the present in 1979 (lost to their friends and family for four years). Rexx soon found that a criminal had taken up the Bowman name in his absence and tarnished it. Rexx changed his costume and name to the Golden Archer in order to defeat the poser. He decided to keep the new look and name as a new chapter of his career. Rexx also found that in his prolonged absence, his sister Regina had declared him dead and replaced him as president of the family business. While Rexx still maintained most of his fortune, he lost controlling interest in the business. He moved on to start his own company. Over the years this hero has fought many foes - like the Mimic, Shadow Dancer and Boss Frio. He has made many allies too like Cat Lady and Russell Jackson, a friend who got turned into a werewolf. In 1999, Rexx decided to hang up his bow and quiver permanently, leaving the heroic adventuring to the younger generation. Motivation: Rexx Carlson is an extremely outgoing person. He loves adventure and a challenge. In his personal life, he never settled down with just one woman. He enjoys having a good time with no strings attached. This too allowed him the freedom to be a costumed adventurer for so many years. Despite what happened with the family company, he holds no ill-will towards his sister Regina. In battle, the archer is very competitive yet he tries to break the stress with humor and comraderie. Even as he retired from the business, he still enjoys mentoring the younger generation and entertaining them with exploits from the past. He is a great storyteller. |
