Background: Linda Bellvar left home in the midwest when she turned eighteen and found her way to Boston. She wanted to become a singer, but she decided to make a little extra money by working in a theatre as a magician's assistant. The two became very intimate, moving in together. She soon discovered that the man was in serious debt to the mob. One night, some men broke into the apartment and killed him while Linda was in the shower.
She gathered up her things quickly and fled the apartment. But, as she was picking up her things, she discovered among his personal belongs something that made this man truly magical. It was a belt that allowed the man to turn intangible and project darkness during his act. When Linda touched the item, she felt a surge of power as she too was granted these special abilities. While she learned to control the new abilities, she went back to singing. Eventually, though, she used her new powers to commit crimes as the Shadow Dancer. Shadow Dancer had a few run-ins with Phantom Lady, and at one time she teamed up with the Mimic. Then, her one-time cellmate, the Golden Greek, approached her to join a criminal team called the Octagon. She agreed to go if they took the Mimic as well, since she had grown rather attracted to the super-acrobatic thief. After a battle with the young hero team known as the Protectors, she along with a few others were left behind while the others escaped. After doing some jail time, she was contacted by Geometric Man to form a new Octagon. Feeling angry at Madame Mammoth and the others who formed the Evil Elite, she accepted readily.
Motivation: Linda has sensitive eyes from constantly going from bright stage lights to the darkness of shadows. She prides herself on being in-fashion, and easily takes offense when she is insulted. She is very flirtatious. |
