Background: Robert Brandon was born in February of 1931 to a prominent family in New Jersey. His father was a known figure in business circles while his mother was involved in many charities and other community service endeavors. His father was killed in the early 40's by criminal elements after he refused to become involved with their activities. His mother was paralyzed, forced to live the rest of her life in a wheelchair. This did not deter the woman though, and she stepped into a position to manage and further grown the family business. Young Robert idolized the costumed heroes of the war-years, some of whom helped bring to the justice the men who had hurt his family.
After the war, when the US government turned on those very heroes, Robert grew enraged. He could not understand why these heroes were being restrained through the HUAC hearings and accusations. The young man focused on his studies and training, working towards a goal. In 1956, he defied the government mandates and donned a bright costume to become the vigilante named Tigerman. Two years later, he took on a partner in a young costumed woman calling herself Tigerwoman. It didn't take too long for the detective to figure out this woman was Lisa Wells, a socialite whom Robert knew quite well from society circles. The two became an item both in and out of costume. On July 7th, 1960, Robert Brandon married Lisa Wells. Lisa hung up her costume when she became pregnant (1962), and, in June of 1963, their only child Stephen was born. Along with nine other heroes, Tigerman created the team known as the Justice Gang (10/68). In 1976, Tigerwoman came out of retirement and was joined the team to fight alongside her husband again. In July of 1980, the couple retired from being a costumed heroes, with Robert moving into a career in politics. Three years later, his son took up the Tigerman mantle. In the Fall of 1984, Robert Brandon was elected mayor of Newark, NJ. He served two four year terms but lost the election in 1992. He was then re-elected two years later when the woman who has beaten him was forced to step down. Motivation: Tigerman started his career as a grim vigilante, but that facade melted a bit when he partnered with Tigerwoman and later allied himself with others in the Justice Gang. He found colleagues who were like-minded: dedicated and honorable. They also became an extended family. Thanks to prolonged life, he was able to step down from the heroic career to try and help others as the mayor of the city he grew up and loved. The fact that he was re-elected a number of times spoke to how well he was doing his job to better the community. |
