Background: Alan Haygner was born to Stephen and Leslie Haygner of England in January of 1963. His father was the heroic sorcerer known to the world of Necromancer. Like all the males in his family line, Alan possessed the potential to be a great magic weilder. Only time and training would tell the tale.
After Alan turned fourteen, he was sent to the United States to begin his indepth studies of the mystical arts with the witch Sybil Leigh, an old friend of his father. She worked with him for the next five years, helping him to hone his talents. During that time period, his parents vanished without a trace. Alan was not yet skilled enough to track them. In 1982, he moved into a home owned by his father in Greenwich Village. He then donned ceremonial robes, a mystic cape and a mask, and became the mystical hero named Mystifier. As Mystifier, one of his first battles was with his father's arch-enemy, the evil sorcerer Zandorok. This was the first of a number of clashes the two would have for many years to come. In the summer of 1986, he contacted a number of young heroes and requested their help in stopping an invasion of Earth by Zandorok. After that adventure, the eight young heroes decided to stick together as a team called the Protectors. It was during this time, he discovered he was starting to have feelings for the young woman Amanda Kelly (Rainbow). He left the team briefly to help track down Matthew Bradley, a young lad who was abducted as an infant by Zandorok. After retrieving the child, he helped raise the ten year old to adulthood. Matthew would become the hero Flamethrower. He left the team a second time to persue a lead on his lost parents. In the late 90's when the Protectors disbanded, some of the members moved on to join the Justice Gang. The offer had been extended to Mystifier but he declined it. He felt his skills were best suited for the mystical persuits and threw himself into a lonely, isolated way of life. He prety much erected personal barriers to keep himself from being hurt again emotionally. In the summer of 2001, Mystifier returned from a mystic quest only to find the Earth was radically different from when he left. No longer was technology a major factor nor was the world landscape what it should have been. Before he could investigate further, he was attacked and taken prisoner. He soon found out that Zandorok had changed Earth's history by preventing the destruction of Atlantis, placing himself in a position as a ruler of the world. Most of those Alan knew were gone or a part of Zandorok's honor guard. Only the Justice Gang member Time Lord, also a prisoner, could possibly help. Using what little magic he could, Mystifier sought new allies across the barriers of infinite Earths and managed to bring them to his world. With instructions and the aid of Time Lord's belt, the heroes were able to go back in time and alter Zandorok's manipulations. The time stream corrected itself accordingly. Motivation: Mystifier uses his magic talents for the cause of right and justice because it is a long standing tradition in his family. Despite the hardships he has had to endure personally, he does not feel it is something he can turn his back on. Still, he is more reluctant today to involve anyone in his life personally for fear of what might happen to them as a result. The fate of his mother is a good example of that. Miscellaneous: The easiest way to adjust Mystifier along his heroic career scale is to adjust up or down the points in his Magic Power Pool and his Magic Skill Roll. The stats below represent his abilities in the later part of the 80's. |
