Background: Mark Berlin was a young astronomer working in a Vancouver laboratory when, late one night, a bright flash of light hurdled down from space and engulfed the lab. When his sight cleared, he found sitting next to him a pair of goggles. Curious, Mark felt drawn to them and put them on. His whole body was suddenly transformed - he felt stronger, his muscles became more defined, and he soon learned he had other abilities like flight and teleportation when wearing them. No longer content at looking at the stars through telescopes, Mark was ecstatic that he could now actually soar among the stars, all thanks to the amazing goggles from space. NASA, however, noticed the flash from space and began to investigate the strang incident. Mark and his wife Mandy left Canada, returning to the United States where both were born. They eventually wound up in Baltimore, visiting Mandy's family. Mark kept the incident hidden from his wife as well as the origin of the goggles he had begun sporting constantly. Meanwhile, he had devised a costume for himself and an identity called Stargazer. He was asked to join the city's hero team Rough Justice after he helped them defeat the Anti-Man. Motivation: After the transformation, Mark became a very outgoing person. This carries over to when he is Stargazer - who comes across as fun-loving and personable. He likes to pose for photos, sign autographs and talk to the media. He has a flair for the dramatic and is generally out to have a good time while doing heroics. He is very self confident and curious. He has a strong sense of justice, which can get in the way when his teammates sometimes act outside of the law.
