Hero Files: Karishi (the hunter)

Background: Yoshikaz Akirou Kunimatsu was a normal child growing up in Japan until the day his family was mutilated by a group of oriental vampires (1974). Arriving home unexpectedly on the scene, the twelve year old boy was too terrified and emotionally upset to escape unnoticed. After a brief chase, the vampires captured the boy and brought them to their leader. In a mocking gesture, he initiated the boy into their society my inflicting him with vampirism. Luckily, however, a dormant metagene in his system interfered with the process and countered some of the savage aspects of the vampirism. Yoshikaz ended up with limited control over the abilites, but he also was not susceptible to sunlight or nor did he have the blood lust of the others.

After some time and witnessing many acts of horror, he escaped the vampire society and went to live with his uncle Omiya in a small village outside of Tokho. There, Yoshikaz learned patience and guidance to cope with his vampiric and mental abilities. The young man finished school and went off to college to receive a doctorate in Psychology. He came to the United States to take a teaching position at John Hopkins University. After moving to Baltimore and encountering the Sinster Spectrum, Karishi joined other heroes as a member of the team known as Rough Justice.

Motivation: His secondary reason for coming to the United States was because he was searching for the fabled Sword of Seimei. This weapon is said to have the ability to slay vampires. Yoshikaz seeks this weapon in hopes to use it to someday exact revenge against the vampires who killed his family and cursed him. For the most part, he is a very serious individual who thinks through situations. However, his vampiric side can get the best of him, causing him to lash out at enemies in fury. He prefers to handle a problem head-on and to get the job done very quickly.
