Background:
Dr. Basil Ranesferd, a brilliant scientist in the field of studying the brain, learned in the early 80's that he was slowly dying from a rare disease. In an attempt to outrace the degeneration of his body, he poured all his time into looking for a way to transfer his brain into another body. Through some experiments on homeless volunteers, he concluded that a human to human transfer would not work.
However, he believed a human to simian transfer would be successful. He then set about to find the perfect specimen and worked on acquiring it. He hijacked a truck transporting a gorilla named Titan and killed the driver. Then, once at his hidden lab, he performed the operation and successfully put his brain into Titan's mighty body. After his transformation, Ranesferd went to challenge his former colleages at NYU. However, panicked reaction to his new appearance turned the situation into chaos and garnered the attention of the hero team of the Protectors. He was captured and incarcerated for theft and murder. A few years later, he escaped from prison with the help of some other super-criminals and was asked to be part of a newly reformed Octagon. He accepted, especially since it meant he could get revenge on the heroes who jailed him the first time. Motivation: Ranesferd believes his brilliant mind must be preserved at all costs. He could not face the idea of his mortality, and thus he did something about it. Now that he inhabits the body of a gorilla, he wants to prove to those who doubted him that he was right about his hypothesis and that he was not a crack-pot. Of course, some think he still is to have transferred his brain into the body of an animal. He is also motivated by revenge against those who have crossed him in the past, and that list now includes the Protectors. |
