Background: Born the son of the Norse Gods Thor and Jarnsaxa, Magni grew up in the realm of Asgard. His grandfather Odin tended to favor Magni which bothered the boy's older half-brother Modi. As he grew to manhood, Magni's strength easily rivaled that of his famous father. Still, he learned all the skills of the Viking warriors and soon joined the other Aesir in the protection of their homelands from roving giants. During one attack by fire giants, the Aesir were forced to retreat and Magni unselfishly offered to stay behind to allow the others time to escape. Instead, Magni was felled by Surtur, the leader of the fire giants, and was left for dead (1416).
When Magni finally awoke (1989), he found himself in a place he did not recognize. Eventually he found his way back to Asgard but the city was deserted. The Aesir were no where to be found. (Unbeknowst to Magni, the Aesir had been captured by the Titans, parents of the Olympian Gods, in 1425.) After many months of searching, he next began to look to Midgard (Earth). But this was not the world with which he was told of - the Vikings no longer roamed the world and the Aesir were no longer worshipped as they had been. Instead there seemed to be a number of metahumans - some good and some evil. He travelled to the United States where an abundance of metahumans seemed to be active in hopes that someone could help him in his search for his people. Magni ended up in Baltimore, MD, on the trail of a vampire powerhouse called the Stalker. He rescued a young nurse, Marla Cantner, from the creature (1990). He and Marla became close friends quickly. When he learned that the local hero team Rough Justice also had encounters with vampires, he went to their offices and offered his services to the team. He fought along side of the team for about a months time before renewing his mission to search for his people. Motivation: Magni is a warrior born and bred. He has a love of adventure and uses a straight forward, direct approach in battle. Typically he will go after the largest, most powerful opponent - usually a brick like himself. If he is attacked by an egoist, however, he will focus his attentions fully on that target since mental attacks enrage him. He is very devoted to those he regards as friends and will treat them like family. Since he is unfamiliar with many aspects of modern Earth culture, he often reacts first before questioning. He has a strong sense of duty and a willingness to fight until the end, and that makes him a powerful asset to those with whom he works. |
