Hero Files: Jolly Roger

Background: McCoy Pauley is the son of James Pauley, a wealthy American executive working for Ziabatsu, a Hosaka Corporation, in Tokyo, and his wife Kati. At age seventeen, McCoy began studying computer science at the University of Tokyo and became fascinated with the concepts of neural implants. After graduation, he was offered a grant from Musabori Industries, where he worked to pioneer the skill chip implant technology. A risk-taker, he even underwent the procedure himself with great success.

McCoy fell in love with Molly Kolodny, the bodyguard the company hired for him. The two soon learned though that Musabori was in fact a front for the Yakuza, the largest organized crime syndicate in Japan. To try to keep McCoy in line, the Yakuza arranged an accident that took the life of his parents. McCoy and Molly decided it was time to leave the company and Japan behind. But before they did, McCoy adopted the identity of Jolly Roger, a costumed vigilante, and with the technology and weapons he designed he struck back at the crime organization who tried to use him.

Jolly Roger moved to Baltimore in part to distance himself from the corruption in his past. Shortly after moving to Baltimore, he was contacted by another hero he once worked with (Phaedrus) and was asked to serve some time as a member of Rough Justice in the hero's absence. Jolly Roger agreed and made a few more good friends in the hero community through doing so.

Motivation: McCoy and Molly want to have a more normal life. While she opened up her own martial arts studio, McCoy set up his own computer consultant firm. Still, the life of adventure calls to him and that is why he is so willing to put back on the costume of Jolly Roger again.
