Background: Born to Ken and Dorothy Cameron of Clinton, Iowa, on March 13, 1970, Julie is the eldest of three children. She has a brother Rick and a sister Jenny. The Camerons lived a simple life, but Julie always craved something more exciting. Like most teenagers, she rebelled and, at age sixteen, ran away from home with a bunch of older ruffians. After being on the road for a few months, Julie found herself alone on the streets of Chicago. A gentleman approached her, bought her a meal, and invited her to join a commune. She accepted. The next morning, Julie awoke in a small, secluded community somewhere in the midwest. It was here her life would change (Fall 1986).
The commune was actually a cover for the former government-funded Project: Genetics, an operation devoted to the study of metahumans. After an intensive physical, Julie was given a room. Her examination, which was a means to study the girl's DNA, revealed that she had latent metahuman abilities. Her case was given over to Dr. Timothy Kale, who through mild chemical ejections, helped bring forth Julie's mental talents. Julie was introduced to other youths under Kale's authority. She became good friends with Annie Sue Patterson (Waterfall) and took a sisterly role to the young Johnny Shore (Peepers). Kale's students, codenamed the New Genetics, were trained by other operatives of Project: Genetics, including members of the criminal Zodiac Gang. Julie soon learned to fear Virgo, whose wicked split personality despised Julie's innocent nature. Given the name Trance, Julie was selected to participate in another of Kale's side projects, the "Viper Sting". Posing as Viper, Kale's agents would study metahumans in action by having special hidden equipment to analyze the metahumans' genetic makups. After a year of such stings across the country, Trance decided she would make a break from this way of life when the sting targetted a couple new heroes in Baltimore. . Changing her story slightly, she pretended her employers really were Viper. When she and Rough Justice escaped the Viper Nest, Julie offered up her services to be the team's receptionist and part time member (summer 1990). Motivation: Julie is scared young woman, afraid of losing her friends (being alone) and afraid of others taking advantage of her. This later bit, mostly because of Kale and his organization, leads her to having major trust issues. She is also trying to get her head straightened out, to find a focus and purpose for her life. |
