Background: Nathan Zander has a dream of absolute power and through the secret M.I.S.T. robot project, plans to see that dream come to life. Over an eight year period, Zander was able to gather some of the greatest scientific minds from across the globe, men who would share his dream. He chose carefully and wisely, and soon in a hidden base in the mountains of upstate New York, the dream began to take shape - in the form of a giant robot warrior. A number of prototype models were created and tested in this secret den.
In late December of 1987, the robot was ready for its first mission. In the process of stealing some nuclear compounds from the Indian Point Nuclear Research facility in New York, the automaton encountered the hero team of the Protectors. After appearing to have driven the heroes off, the machine returned to base only to be followed by the group. The four key scientists and the piloting team escaped in the unit, however the mountain base and its staff of construction teams were captured. The M.I.S.T. organization would have to take refuge elsewhere, rebuild and continue work on the existing unit and possible additional units. Motivation: Like their name suggests, M.I.S.T. has goals that include taking over and conquest. However, with four strong willed scientists at the helm, what exactly they want to take over is often the point of debate. Clearly, Dr. Zander has taken the position of leader and will use his personality and physical prowess to sway the others to his thinking. Though not everyone agrees with his approach or his say as the final word. Details on the four key scientists of M.I.S.T. can be found at the bottom of the page. (continued below) |

Nathan Zander is the primary scientist responsible for the formation and concept of M.I.S.T. This American scientist has expertise in electronics, magnetics and robotics. He feels society can not appreciate his genius, so with the help of others like himself, he plans on creating a number of giant robot warriors who can take whatever he pleases. Zander is 6'1", 235lbs, with dark hair and charcoal eyes. He is in his early 40's and has one surviving relative, his brother Carl. Hiro Fujama is the youngest of the group at just 30 years old. He was a prodigy in Japan and master in Physics. He is responsible for perfecting new techniques in propulsion. Though he is a major stockholder in a Japanes aircraft firm, he eagerly seized the opportunity to lend his talents to Zander's covert projtect. He is 5'4", 160lbs with black hair and black eyes. Behind those eyes, which are always watchful and taking in the situations, is a brain working out the details to someday usurp Zander's position. He is very shrewd and has a strong poker face around the others. |
Klaus Heinlen, like his father before him, was an expert at biochemistry and the studies of nerve gases. And, like his father who served briefly under Adolf Hitler, Heinlen firmly believes that some humans are more superior to others. Like Zander, he wants to see the world kneel before him. Thus, he readily offered his talents to the project. He is 46 years old, 6' tall and weighs 210lbs. Ivan Kostok and his fifteen year old daughter defected the Soviet Union in 1979 after the KGB killed his wife in front of him in hopes to coerce him into sharing his scientific discoveries. Kostok would not give away his advanced findings in metalurgy. In the US, he met Nathan Zander and was easily convinced to put his talents to use for the M.I.S.T. project. Kostok's contribution has been the superiour metal which makes up the robots' frame and armor. He longs to payback the Soviet government that tried to control him. Kostok is 5'10", 198lbs with grey eyes and thinning hair. He is 52 years old. |
