Background: Thomas Johnson was born to salesman Kenneth Johnson and his wife Martha in a Brooklyn hospital in 1969. His childhood was typical: filled with school, comic books, video and roleplaying games.
The only oddity was a re-occuring dream which began when he was ten and continued with intensity for the next six years. The dream consisted of Tommy standing at the foot of a great mountain in a sunny, prosperous land. He would catch a brief glimpse of a figure moving with great speed. Tommy would climb up after the figure. The higher he climbs, the faster he seems to be moving. When he tires, a booming male voice in his head urges him to aspire to greatness. On the exact day of his sixteenth birthday, Tommy suddenly found he could move much faster than normal. The more he practiced, the easier it was to use his super-speed. He soon fashioned a costume and took on the name Ricochet. After a year of working solo while juggling his school work and after-school activities, Tommy joined some other young heroes in the New York City area to become the Protectors. When time came for college, he opted to only go parttime. He had to explain to his parents about his secret life, and they forbid him to continue it. After a heated dispute, he moved out of the house. It would take many years and a crisis for the family to reconcile. He has since finished his education and works as a programmer. When the Protectors disbanded, Ricochet joined a number of the members as they were invited to join the ranks of the Justice Gang. Motivation: Thomas, now in his thirties, is still an easy going, fun loving person. As a youth, he tended to be a bit impulsive and quick to act. Time and age have brought him a bit more wisdom. |
