(based on characters mentioned in Scott Burnham's "the AEGIS Aggregate" presented in Clobberin' Times #8, 1989)
This is the slightly modified version of the team to fit into my gaming world. Click on the photos for a larger view of each character.

Purpose: heroic
Base of Operations: the Hawaiian islands, USA

History: The team was formed in 1989 when a group of local heroes of the islands came together to fight the villainous EarthMaster. Since that time, they have served as the defenders of the South Pacific, battling both evil and natural disasters.

Membership

Some of the members of the team include:

Hula Girl is Lelani Makaii, a graduate student in Anthropology who specializes in South Pacific cultures and dance. While studying an idol of the godess Pele, she felt the compulsion to visit Mount Kilauea, a recently active volcano. There, the goddess appeared to her and granted her amazing abilities including: flight, projection of mental paralysis, an entangle via a mystic lei, blasts of water or fire, and increased defenses and strength. In her heroic identity, Hula Girl tends to be bold, flirtatious and confident - a direct opposite to Lelani's personality. Lelani can control her change into Hula Girl, however sometimes the goddess Pele will invoke the change direcly in times of extreme need to the islands. The heroine gladly follows the goddess' direction since it was she who provided the great powers.

Hurricane is Ariel Gonzales, a local native who spent most of his youth hanging out among the islands' surfing culture. He tends to speak in the native Hawaiian slang and doesn't take well to tourists and those from the mainland. His powers relating to wind control manifested when he was seventeen due to genetic anomalies in his DNA. Hurricane can use these powers to project blasts of air, bind enemies in an entangle, fly, and project a wall of air for defense. He is very protective of Hula Girl and sometimes questions Pele's judgment in what she asks the young woman to do. He is also uneasy about Ironwood being around all the time (while he likes the big fellow he worries about any unexpected damage he might cause).

Ironwood was once an archeologist who found himself trapped in some ancient island ruins due to an earthquake caused by a nearby volcano eruption. With his dying breath, the man prayed for someone to help him. The island gods responded and transferred his life essence into that a large stone tiki carving. There, he remained dormant until a time of great danger. Then he was granted life once more, to move about in the form of the large rock-like being. Called Ironwood, which also means 'the Tree', he possesses great strength and physical defenses. He also has enhanced hearing and perception. He can move quite a good distance for someone so large and massive. While gentle in nature normally, he can be a fierce fighter in battle. He abides by Pele's request to aid Hula Girl whenever asked. Because of how he came into being, he tends to be more susceptible to magic based attacks.
