Background: Eric Timothy Steele had planned to be a career military man like his father before him. In the summer of 1974, fresh out of high school, he enlisted in the army and excelled at all activities in bootcamp. Three months later he was shipped out with his unit for conflicts overseas. He soon was recognized for his courage and willingness to follow through on orders, no matter the consequences. It was during a mission that a plane he was on was shot down by enemy fire; he was the only survivor of the wreckage though his body suffered crippling injuries (1979).
While hospitalized, Eric learned that his high school sweetheart Jennifer discovered she was pregnant just after he left the country. She quietly had the child, a daughter named Molly, and was trying to raise her as a single parent. This news devastated Eric. Here he had a young daughter who did not yet know her father, and he did not want her to meet him as a wreck of man the accident had left him. He saw the military's psychiatrist to try to come to terms with the issues. The psychiatrist knew of an experimental program the government was involved with and recommended that Eric be a part of the program. The man took a chance, especially if it meant he might walk again and could have a chance at the life he had lost. After intense surgeries and long periods of recovery, Eric was back to a condition hundreds of times better than he had ever been before. His bones were now laced with a specialized steel alloy, which helped make him stronger. The medications altered his body chemistry, making his muscles more powerful and his skin more impervious. He was able to leave the hospital after over a year and was ready to start a new life with his new family. But this new lease on life came with a price. Eric had agreed to work for the government in exchange for his medical miracle. And the government wanted him to be the resident 'hero' at its first Stronghold complex near Phoenix, Arizona. They helped him craft an image, a guise called 'Panzershrike', to go with the position. (11/05/80). (continued below...) |

Eric convinced Jennifer to follow him to Arizona, and there he tried to balance both his new personal life with his professional obligations. The two were married in 1982, and Eric formally adopted Molly as his daughter. However, over time, Eric's two worlds came into direct conflict. Jennifer was growing more concerned about the dangerous line of work Eric was engaged in. These concerns often exploded into heated arguments between the couple. By the late 80's, Jennifer couldn't stand it any more, filed for divorce and custody, and moved away with Molly. Eric was crushed, only allowed visitation rights with his daughter whom he cherished so much.
Eric often took his personal frustrations out on the Stronghold inmates. Luckily, they could take it! For this Stronghold facility was not only the first but it also was the place where the heavy-hitters were sent. Powerhouses like Grond and Ripper were just some of the many that Panzershrike often found he had to flex his own muscles against. The Arizona Stronghold was nicknamed 'Ground Zero' for a very good reason.
Occasionally, the government will draft Panzerstrike for some special 'field assignments'. It was during one of these during the mid-80's where he made enemies of the international super-criminals of Eurostar.
Motivation: Panzershrike is a tough-as-nails, by the book kind of man. He understands that there are rules and regulations that need to be followed. While he may object to some of the actions of his government superiors, he never makes his objections known. Instead, he tries to work from within the system to satisfy the results in his own manner. Outside of the mask, he is the type of guy that you'd see at any local bar: he loves sports, a good beer and the occasional cigar. As a parent, he tries to make the most of his visits with Molly. As she grows older, their relationship grows as well. She enjoys spending time with him when she can.
